This week, we released S&P Capital IQ’s Credit Football League, which ranks the relative financial stability of 44 public and private football clubs in Europe, from strongest (1st) to weakest (44th).
In the report, we use our proprietary credit analytics, including CreditModel credit scores and Probability of Default Market Signals, to assess the clubs’ creditworthiness and reviewed whether or not performances on the pitch had any relation to their financial strength. These proprietary S&P Capital IQ models are completely separate from Standard & Poor’s credit ratings and in no way constitute a rating. The outputs are model-based and purely quantitative credit scores.
The infographic below shows seven of those teams, and as you can see Dutch club AFC Ajax NV came out on top, with England’s Arsenal and Scotland’s Celtic plc rounding out the top three.
