According to our latest banking infographic, the world's five largest banks are all based in Asia, and China-headquartered banks make up the top four.
Beijing-based Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd., China Construction Bank Corp., and Agricultural Bank of China Ltd. are still the three largest banks in the world, with total assets calculated at $3.421 trillion, $2.826 trillion and $2.740 trillion, respectively. Bank of China, also based in Beijing, rose to number four from number five in a previous ranking, with total assets at $2.590 trillion. Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group rounded out the top five with total assets at $2.459 trillion. JPMorgan Chase & Co. remains the largest U.S.-based bank.
