Firm’s Increased Regional Investment Enables Broader Data Collection on ca. 1,500 Public Companies in the Region

London, UK

London, 15 October 2014 – With a focus on the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) growing importance as both a destination and source of global investment capital, S&P Capital IQ, a leading provider of multi-asset class data, research and analytics, today announced a significant expansion of its own collection of financial data for public companies in the region. Specifically, the firm has expanded its linguistic, collecting and quality assurance resources to ensure timely and comprehensive fundamental data coverage for ca. 1,500 actively traded companies in the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.

This investment, combined with S&P Capital IQ’s industry-leading financial data, standardisation methodology and thorough quality checks, provides the firm’s customers with increased transparency on public companies in the MENA region, including those that file financial statements only in Arabic. It supports S&P Capital IQ clients’ effective decision making for lending, risk management, investments, and mergers and acquisitions in the region.

“We have invested in additional collection and translation resources, and now offer our clients more timely in-depth data on public companies in the MENA region,” commented Seyfi Gunay, Vice President, Emerging Markets at S&P Capital IQ. “This investment supports our strategy to invest in our local data offering for buy- and sell-side firms in MENA, while also meeting the needs of global clients operating in this region. We will continue to strive to provide our clients with value-adding data services.”

The data standardisation efforts behind the S&P Capital IQ global data offerings allow a like-for-like comparison of publicly-listed companies in the MENA region with global public, private, rated and unrated companies. S&P Capital IQ enables the financial community to outsource the resource intensive effort associated with the collection and aggregation of data in an easy and meaningful way.

The firm’s in-depth knowledge of financial data and thorough quality checks coupled with the platform’s wider capabilities in research, benchmarks and analytics provide S&P Capital IQ customers with a differentiated advantage in this market.
